Inspiration #3 - Project BLUME
PROJECT BLUME
a project for climate change with a really awesome acronym as title.
What is Project BLUME?
A challenge - but a challenge that is more of an invitation.
You do not have to be involved in this wonderful project - and you are just as wonderful without it.
This challenge is a daily choice to make climate conscious habits.
The acronym 'BLUME' stand for:
Buy
Learn
Use
Move
Eat
These verbs(buy, learn, use, move, eat) show us the five main ways humans negatively affect the environment:
Buying products made through lots of environmentally harming manufacturing phases and transportation;
Learning about things other than how to help climate change and ignoring it;
Using fossil fuel energy, or energy, trees and water in a not-sustainable way;
Moving in airplanes and cars and emitting fossil fuels;
Eating red meat, palm oil, and foods that use a lot of space and emit a lot of greenhouse gasses.
How does it work?
A) Every Sunday(or day before start of the week with work and business) write down(so you can refer to it, if you keep it in your head and won't lose focus on it that's okay) B-L-U-M-E and something you can do the WHOLE week or every day for each letter in BLUME.
Ex.
Monday: Buy NOTHING. No. Single. Thing.
Tuesday: Learn about gardening for food(1 article read!).
Wednesday: Use less light(read by headlamp/batteries)
Thursday: Move by walking/biking to get groceries or to visit my friends instead of driving!
Friday: Eat no meat.
Saturday: Pick up trash(one bag)
Sunday: Optional(pick favorite activity?)
B) Every Sunday(etc.) you will focus on one letter of BLUME for the following week.
Ex.
Mon. Use less water(5 minute shower)
Tues. Use less electricity through screen-free time.
Thurs. Use less water(5 minute shower)
Fri. Use no-packaging foods and recycling.
Sat. Use less water(5 minute shower)
Sun. Use less electricity with candles for dinner lighting.
C) Another option that works for you!
WE CAN DO THIS!
Why will it work?
a) writing down goals give you accountability.
b) thinking through something before doing it gives you a clear method of moving forward.
c) is a simple way to help the environment and make you feel good about yourself.
Next Sunday, I pledge to do this(and Sundays following that).
